How do I know if I should see a psychiatrist?
If you have persistent sadness, anxiety or mood swings, find daily life hard to cope with, notice changes in your sleep or appetite, or have thoughts of harming yourself, please seek help.
What happens at the first appointment?
The psychiatrist asks about your health and history, talks through your symptoms and agrees a treatment plan with you. This may include therapy, medicines or changes to daily routines.
Will I always be given medicines?
Not always. Some people do well with therapy alone; others need medicines alongside therapy.
